Florida Tech Women’s Rowing Returns to Competition After 385-Day Hiatus, Sweeps All Four Events

Florida Tech returns to competition on April 3

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – After a 385-day hiatus, Florida Tech women’s rowing were back in action as they welcomed both Barry and Rollins to Canal 54 for some Sunshine State Conference action.
Despite the break, Florida Tech kept up its winning ways as the team swept all four events.
The boat of Graysen Pensch (bow), Simona Vileniskyte, Sydney Spicer, Gabby Rodezno Wilson, Maclain Zajicek, Hannah Schilcher, Ismini Noni, Anna Kayser Gallego (stroke) and Abbigale Smith (coxswain) tallied their first win of the season as they left the competition in the dust.
The V8 crossed the line in 7:12.4 while the Bucs (7:27.0) were second and Rollins (7:53.6) came in third.
The Panthers DII V4+ had a very impressive showing as the shell of Sophia Ferrizzi (bow), Lotti Lutter, Maggie Eure, Rebecca Miller (stroke) and Nashaita Patrawalla (coxswain) went 8:18.9 while Barry did not finish until almost a minute later at 9:11.2.
The freshman/novice eight boat of Elise Farr (bow), Savannah Wilson, Maggie Eure, Lotti Lutter, Maclain Zajicek, Gabby Rodezno Wilson, Ismini Noni, Sophia Ferrizzi (stroke) and Alice Pennings (coxswain) had the best showing as they beat the competition by over a minute as they recorded a time of 7:41.0 compared to Rollins 8:47.1.
The final race of the morning was the Varsity 4+ (Non-DII 4+) and was the closest competition but the Panthers shell of Sydney Spicer (bow), Hannah Schilcher, Graysen Pensch, Anna Kayser Gallego (stroke) and Abbigale Smith (coxswain) notched a time of 7:59.9 and Barry went 8:02.8.
Florida Tech’s next competition will be the FIRA Championship on Saturday, April 3, at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Florida.
