BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech women’s rowing gave it their all and this was enough as the team swept Sunshine Conference rival, Embry-Riddle, and made it to both the V8 and V4 Grand Finals.
The V8 of Graysen Pensch (stroke), Simona Vileniskyte, Sydney Spicer, Hannah Schilcher, Maclain Zajicek, Liza Lutter, Ismini Noni, Anna Kayser Gallego (bow), and Abbigale Smith (coxswain) were the first to take the starting line.
The Panthers did their job from the start as they were ahead at each of the 500-meter splits as they steadily built their advantage. In the end, the boat won with open water as they crossed in 6:50.586, which was over 10 seconds quicker than the Eagles.
Florida Tech’s V4 of Gabby Rodezno Wilson (stroke), Sophia Ferrizzi, Rebecca Miller, Julia Seibold (bow), and Nashaita Patrawalla (coxswain) closed the day for the women.
This was a close affair for much of the race as the teams battled back and forth but the Panthers started to pull away and managed a five-second win as they recorded a 7:52.279.
Florida Tech will now look to avenge their earlier losses and secure the team’s first national championship. The team will be back at Nathan Benderson Park for the Grand Final heats, which are set for Sunday, May 30, at 9:24 a.m. and 9:36 a.m. ET.
