A woman died Wednesday after her SUV crashed into a guardrail in Melbourne, with police saying they believe she may have suffered a medical episode before the crash.
BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — A woman died Wednesday after her SUV crashed into a guardrail in Melbourne, with police saying they believe she may have suffered a medical episode before the crash.
The Melbourne Police Department responded at approximately 1:16 p.m. Sept. 23 to the area of South Harbor City Boulevard and NASA Boulevard following a report of a vehicle striking a guardrail.
According to Melbourne Police Sergeant Benjamin Slover, when officers arrived, they found a female driver inside a 2025 Hyundai SUV who appeared to be experiencing an unknown medical event.
Officers broke a window to gain access to the vehicle, extricated the driver, and began providing lifesaving medical care.
The driver was transported to the hospital for further evaluation and treatment but was pronounced dead shortly after arriving, police said.
At this time, investigators believe the driver suffered a medical episode. Investigators are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Police are withholding the driver’s identity pending notification of next of kin.
