Florida Tech’s ‘Varsity-8’ Wins Fourth Straight Sunshine State Conference Boat of the Year Honors

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Florida Tech women’s rowing and the Varsity-8 showed they were the head of the class and this lead to them repeating as the Sunshine State Conference Boat of the Year, announced Thursday, May 20.
The V8 of Graysen Pensch (bow), Simona Vileniskyte, Sydney Spicer, Hannah Schilcher, Maclain Zajicek, Liza Lutter, Ismini Noni, Anna Kayser Gallego (stroke), and Abbigale Smith (coxswain) had another record-setting season.
The women won the SSC championship off of their almost nine-second open water victory along with other first-place finishes plus many strong finishes against the competition of all divisions.
The honor is the V8’s fourth-straight SSC Boat of the Year and fifth in program history.
The V8 and the rest of the women’s rowing team are now preparing for the ultimate prize, the national championship, as the team heads to Sarasota, Florida, next week for the regatta set for May 28-30.
