Cocoa Beach Police Arrest Missouri Man for Stolen Power Tools and Other Property Recovered During Traffic Stop

Cocoa Beach Police arrested a Missouri man on Sunday during a traffic stop after police located possession of suspected stolen power tools and other property inside the vehicle.

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA BEACH, FLORIDA – Cocoa Beach Police arrested a Missouri man on Sunday during a traffic stop after police located possession of suspected stolen power tools and other property inside the vehicle.

Police say 50-year-old Kurt Zaiz was arrested by Cocoa Beach Police early Sunday morning, May 30, at around 6:15 a.m.. near the 3000 block of N. Atlantic Ave.

According to the investigation, Cocoa Beach Police Officer Nick Ingersoll stopped Zaiz for traffic violations and determined that Zaiz’s driver’s license was suspended (3rd or subsequent offense-felony).

Zaiz then attempted to dispose of a bag that contained suspected cocaine/residue.

Police conducted a search of the vehicle where they found drug paraphernalia, a large number of power tools and miscellaneous property, as well as several handmade signs used for advertising sale of the items.

Zaiz was arrested and charged with Dealing in Stolen Property; Driving While License Suspended with Knowledge; Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and transported to the county jail.
Zaiz’s juvenile son was a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the traffic stop.

DCF was contacted and responded to arrange custody with a local family member.

“Thank you to Cocoa Beach McDonald’s for the donation of a Happy Meal for the little boy, who ate and played with toys with officers while waiting for DCF,” said a Cocoa Beach Police spokesperson.

This investigation is ongoing. Police believe the theft(s) occurred out of the area.
