BREVARD COUNTY β€’ VIERA, FLORIDA – The Viera High School football program retired jersey number 1 in honor of former Hawk standout receiver Tre Nixon.

The New England Patriots recently selected the former Viera Hawk and UCF Knight wide receiver in the 7th round with the 242nd overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

In 2020, Nixon caught 19 passes for 260 yards and two touchdowns for UCF; and in 2019, he caught 49 passes for 830 yards and seven touchdowns for the Knights.

He has been known for his big downfield threat and has great acceleration and speed that translates well for the NFL. Experts see Nixon potentially fitting in as an NFL slot wide receiver.

At 6-feet-2-inches tall and weighing in at 180-pounds, he also has size to go along with his speed.

“We’re honored to announce that Viera Hawks Football has retired the #1 jersey in honor of Tre Nixon,” said Viera Hawks head football coach Derek Smith.

“His leadership, dedication, and work ethic epitomize what it takes to make it to the highest level.”

The official jersey retirement ceremony date and time will be announced, stay tuned to Space Coast Daily for updates.
