BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – Merritt Island football held their annual black and gold game Friday night,  where coaches can assess the talent and see what’s in store for the upcoming season.

This week’s game had a little different flair to it.

An electric tinge was in the air, cool and breezy, perfect weather for a Friday night game.

Dozens of prior players and coaches reconvened on the hallowed confines of the High School football field.

For the first time, Merritt Island had a reunion of its most notable players, while honoring some of the most storied programs in Space Coast history.

Among the former players, there were notable standouts being enshrined into the “Mustangs Ring of Honor”.

Started this year as a way to thank the past players for their contributions and commitment to the MIHS football legacy, ten select players were honored with oversized die-cut jerseys with their names and number printed for all to see.

These metal plaques will adorn the outer fence line of the MIHS football stadium known as “The O-DOME” in honor of legendary coach, and Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame inductee Gerald Odom.
