BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Titusville Terriers (4-1) will travel south to Merritt Island (5-0) for Thursday night football on Space Coast Daily TV, presented by Mike Erdman Automotive.

Tune in at 7 p.m. as Friday Night Locker Room’s Orville Susong and Zane Garcia will be on the call from the O-Dome.

The Mustangs rank as the No. 21 team in the state of Florida, according to MaxPreps. The Terriers, winners of their last two games, enter Thursday night after a big win over Harmony 46-7 last week.

Tale of the Tape

Other than their preseason loss to Cypress Bay, the Merritt Island Mustangs’ record is unblemished. Last week they defeated Bishop Kenny 45-23, making three games in a row putting 45 on the scoreboard. If Titusville will take down the Mustangs, stopping the Mustangs’ offense will be the first task.

Kevin Verpaele has thrown for over 1,300 yards with 11 touchdowns, but also has 6 touchdowns on the ground. He has been extremely hard to contain, and stopping him will be impossible.

However, Titusville’s quarterback, Remy Vigne, has been dynamite himself. In four games, Vigne has 750 yards and nine touchdowns, taking the load off of all-star talent Elijah “Tank” Harvey. In Titusville’s one loss to Spruce Creek they only gave up 23 points, that shows their defense has been the highlight of the season so far.

With this being a district matchup this game, holds a lot of weight in the district standings and potential seeding in the playoffs.

Keys to Victory for Titusville

  • Take care of the ball – If the Terriers can win the turnover battle and take advantage of more opportunities, that will sway in the Terriers way.

  • Stop explosive plays – The Merritt Island offense is built to run the ball and then take the top off of the defense; Titusville will be better at giving up the underneath routes than the deep ball

  • Get Tank going early – Elijah “Tank” Harvey is electric; Titusville will line him up in several different spots on offense, and he is the offensive spark that gets the Terriers going.

Keys to Victory for Merritt Island

Kevin Verpaele has over 1,500 total yards this season and 17 touchdowns as he leads the 5-0 Mustangs this season.
  • Hit the deep ball early in the game – Zaylan Chapple will normally force safeties to load the box; this allows Timothy Seders, Elijah Mitchell, and DeShaun Thomas to beat you deep.

  • Slow down Tank – While the focal point of the offense is Tank Harvey for the Terriers, Merritt Island will need to slow him down and force Remy Vigne to beat you in the air.

  • Convert on third down – Third and manageable is something the Mustangs live in, and keeping drives alive, eating clock, will start to wear down the Terriers’ tenacious defense.
