Eastern Florida Men’s Golf Team Wins Dan York Memorial Tournament, Fires 282 in Final Round

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College men’s golf team won the Dan York Memorial Tournament Tuesday at Cross Creek Golf Course in Cullman, Alabama.
It is the first time a Titans team has won an event at Cross Creek Golf Course under head coach Jamie Howell.
“Winning the Dan York Memorial Tournament is an honor as coach York was a personal friend and mentor to me,” Eastern Florida State College men’s golf coach Jamie Howell said.
“It was a tough day and the team hung in there. It is a good way for the team to begin what will be a competitive season.”
Eastern Florida State College shot a 282 in the final round and beat the field by eight strokes, finishing the three rounds with an 836. Central Alabama CC finished second, shooting a 291 in the final round.
Sophomore John Houchin finished second overall in the tournament after a final-round 73. Houchin shot a 207 in the tournament and finished two strokes behind medalist Ryley Heath of Calhoun Community College.
Teammate Matt Gauntlett tied for third place with a 68 in the final round and finished with a 208 in the tournament. Brandon Boncore was tied for fifth with a 73 on Tuesday and shot 211 for the tournament.
Drew Lanier shot a 68 to finish tied for eighth and Ryan McMillan shot 227 for the tournament.
Eastern Florida State College will play at the Dalton State Fall Invitational in Innisbrook, Florida on Sept. 27-28.
