BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech head coach Jim Granger has announced the hire of Mark Roberts as assistant coach of the Florida Tech men’s rowing program.
“I’m very excited to welcome Mark to our university and coaching staff,” said Granger.
“His experience as a rower and coach within the highly competitive Eastern Sprints conference will be beneficial to our program as we continue to strive to improve.”
Roberts comes to Florida Tech after serving as an assistant coach for the varsity men’s team at Marin Rowing Association, one of the top rowing clubs in the United States. He also has coaching experience at the collegiate and high school levels.
“I’m incredibly excited to join the Florida Tech Athletic family,” said Roberts.
“I want to thank Coach Granger and Athletic Director Jamie Joss for this opportunity. Florida Tech has built a strong program, and I hope I can contribute in a way that lives up to the legacy of the men’s rowing program.”
Roberts worked with Marin Rowing, which is based in Greenbrae, California, from September 2020 through July 2021, and served alongside the head coach in managing the team, maintaining the schedule, and writing and implementing the training plan.
Additionally, he provided athletes guidance in Division I recruiting process.
From August 2018 to August 2020, Roberts served as a volunteer coach for Georgetown University’s men’s rowing team in addition to working as an assistant coach for Walt Whitman High School’s varsity boy’s rowing team.
In both positions, Roberts coached the second and third varsity boats and assisted in the development and implementation of the team’s training plan.
Roberts, who is a native of Kensington, Maryland, was a member of the men’s lightweight rowing team at the University of Pennsylvania from 2014 to 2018 and served as the team captain from 2017 to 2018.
