Cape Canaveral Man Arrested for Occupied Burglary of a Cocoa Beach Office Building

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA BEACH, FLORIDA – A Cape Canaveral Man was arrested Saturday night for Occupied Burglary of a Cocoa Beach office building.

Ricky Lee Vandiver, 27, of Cape Canaveral, was arrested Saturday evening, Oct. 30, for allegedly burglarizing a vehicle parked in the parking lot of Holiday Inn Express, 5575 N. Atlantic Ave., then forcing his way into an occupied office building located at 5505 N. Atlantic Ave.

Vandiver was first observed inside a parked vehicle by the vehicle’s owner, and fled once confronted.

Cocoa Beach Police received a call a short time later at about 5:50 p.m. regarding an individual, later identified as Vandiver, entering the second floor of the office building after breaking a window.

Vandiver refused to comply with Officers’ orders to exit, so a perimeter was established with assistance of deputies.

Vandiver broke another window in an attempt to flee, but was unsuccessful due to law enforcement presence.

Officers entered the office building and while searching the building, it was discovered that one of the offices was occupied. Those individuals were moved to safety.

Vandiver was subsequently located and taken into custody without incident.

Vandiver was charged with Occupied Burglary; Burglary; Theft; Resisting Arrest; and transported to the Brevard County Jail.
