BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – In the early morning hours of December 16, Swing Merckle, 71, passed away peacefully with her husband Floyd of 47 years and her fur babies with her. She was known by her friends as Sue.

Swing Merckle spent 25 years as an Army wife and was very proud of that. Through those years she as deeply involved in the military community. She loved her step children; Beth Anne, Jennifer, Tyler, and Nathan as though they were her own.

She received many commendations and awards from the military communities she lived in, she was extremely proud of awards from the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy where she was a group leader for the wives of personnel assigned there.

After her soldier husband retired she found ways to participate in community veteran’s affairs. For many years she cooked for veteran residents of the Veteran Transitional Facility. Probably the only facility of its type where veteran residents had appetizers every day at 4 p.m.

She truly loved her guys and girls. She had an undying love and respect for the United States even though she was born in a small village near Arngtdhong, Thailand.

She was a member of the Vietnam and all Veterans of Brevard. For many years she cooked at the annual Vietnam and all Veterans reunion held in Wickham Park.

She loved opening and closing ceremonies. She was a member of the Titusville Rifle and Pistol Club. She would gather “shooting related” items and have a raffle at each club meeting to benefit the club. She cooked for club shooters when it was called for. She was a nonstop participant in club activities.

In earlier years she was a competitor in NRA Service Rifle matches with her Assault Rifle as long as she could go she never missed a “Friends of the NRA” event. She will be missed by her family and the community. Heaven is a better place and this world is a poorer place for her passing.

There will be a celebration of life in honor of Swing Merckle on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at 2:30 p.m. at North Brevard Funeral Home, Titusville, Florida.
