BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The New England Patriots announced on Monday that they will sign former Viera Hawk and UCF Knight wide receiver Tre Nixon to a future contract after he served on on the team’s practice squad this past year.
The Patriots selected former Viera Hawk and UCF Knight wide receiver Tre Nixon in the 7th round with the 242nd overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
In 2020, Nixon caught 19 passes for 260 yards and two touchdowns despite an injury early on in the season that hampered is final season with the UCF Knights.
Nixon has been known for his big downfield threat and has great acceleration and speed that translates well for the NFL. Experts see Nixon potentially fitting in as an NFL slot wide receiver.
At 6-feet-2-inches tall and weighing in at 180-pounds, he also has size to go along with his speed.
According to NFL Draft analyst site Walter Football, Nixon was ranked as the 25th-best receiver in the class, which is widely considered to be one of the deepest receiver classes in recent memory.
