BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – For the third time this season Brody Boyer hit a shot in the final seconds to lift the Eastern Florida State College men’s basketball team to a win.
On Wednesday night, Boyer hit a 3-pointer with a second left on the clock to give the Titans a 71-68 victory over Santa Fe College to improve to 1-1 in the Central Conference and 11-6 overall.
“A lot of credit goes to Santa Fe, coach Mowry is an outstanding coach and, they are one of the top teams in the country for a reason, they are an outstanding team,” Eastern Florida State College men’s basketball coach Jeremy Shulman said.
“For our guys to get a win against a team like that just makes me proud of these guys. We didn’t put our heads down when we faced a lot of adversity, the guys just competed.”
Down two with under a minute remaining Justin Reid was fouled and hit both free throws to tie the game at 68-68. Neither team would take the lead which set up the Titans to hold for the last shot.
And like he has twice before, Boyer took a few dribbles and rose up, hitting the 3-pointer that gave the Titans a 71-68 overtime win.
Eastern Florida State College got off to a slow start as Santa Fe led 13-2 in the first six minutes of the contest.
Derrick Butler and Reggie Hill came off the bench and provided a spark as the lead evaporated and with nine minutes and 50 seconds remaining in the first half, Ron Ukaj hit a 3-pointer to give the Titans their first lead of the day.
Eastern Florida State College would go on a 15-3 run to help the Titans go into the locker room with a 37-30 lead.
That lead would stretch to as many as 15 points three minutes into the second half as Roberts Berze had five straight points. A 10-0 run by Santa Fe would put the Saints right back into the game and with seven minutes remaining Santa Fe would regain the lead.
The game would remain close down the stretch and forward Markus Harding came up big, grabbing a loose ball and putting it in with 0.8 seconds on the clock to send the game to overtime.

The overtime period saw the team’s trade points with Santa Fe taking the lead with 1:24 remaining. Justin Reid hit two free throws to tie the game, setting up Boyer to make another game-winning shot.
“It was a great feeling, but I have to give credit to my teammates. I was kind of having a rough night, but my teammates came through and that is what a team is all about,” Boyer said. “It was a team win.”
Reid led the Titans attack with 13 points and eight rebounds while Butler finished with 12 points and seven rebounds in the win.
Hasan Abdul-Hakim led Santa Fe with 19 points.
Eastern Florida State College will travel to Daytona State College for a 4 p.m. Central Conference game on Saturday.
