BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Aquarium ArtWalk Project kicks off its month-long countywide exhibit on March 5 displaying aquarium-themed artworks by over 50 local artists in libraries throughout Brevard.
The 100 percent volunteer-driven project was designed to help promote the future Aquarium being built by the East Coast Zoological Society, known for its flagship location, Brevard Zoo.
Works by multiple artists will be featured at each location. Artists were asked to submit aquarium-themed pieces which were selected on the basis of merit and relevance to life on the Indian River Lagoon.
The juried works represent a variety of perspectives that locals are sure to recognize. Whether featuring scenes of wildlife, landscapes, or fun in the sun, these works will inspire viewers to reflect deeply on life in and around the Indian River Lagoon.
Participating artist, KC Grapes believes the ArtWalk is a great way to create “curiosity and excitement about the new aquarium” and shares that she is “proud to help communicate how special our ecosystem is by hanging some of [her] art in the ArtWalk.”
If you fall in love with something you see, you may be able to bring it home once the event closes. Works available for sale will be noted and artist contact information provided.

The free public event, being held in participating Brevard County libraries, runs from March 5 through March 27. Artworks will be available for viewing during regular library hours.
Visitors are encouraged to take selfies and share on social media to help spread the word about the Aquarium.
A kid’s activity guide will be available at each of the libraries. Information about Our Legacy Campaign, the fundraising effort to make The Aquarium Project possible, will also be available.
ArtWalk maps and artist information can be found on the Aquarium ArtWalk website, AquariumArtWalk.org.
The volunteer group behind ArtWalk was formed in 2019 after participating in a community engagement session hosted by Brevard Zoo.
Teams were asked to brainstorm engagement ideas in support of The Aquarium Project. Passionate about the arts, the group dreamed up the ArtWalk and has been planning the event for over two years.

After several Covid interruptions, the team is thrilled to showcase amazing local artists while spreading the news about The Aquarium.
“We are all so excited about the world-class Aquarium being developed right here on the Space Coast,” said Joan Engel, the group’s organizer. “And we want you to be too.”
The Aquarium, a destination for kids of all ages, will be built at Port Canaveral on the Banana River and is targeted to open in a few years.
The Aquarium will offer interactive experiences that spotlight conservation efforts, the Indian River Lagoon, and marine animal rehabilitation programs. In keeping with Brevard Zoo’s tradition, it promises great fun!
