Covid-19 has brought the world to a standstill and it stuck around longer than anyone had expected. Every year It claims several lives and continues to do so. Some people have taken the blow a lot harder than others. Homelessness, which has been a persisting issue in the US for many years, has increased by a significant amount.

In addition, people have been devoid of social interactions for a long time which has interrupted the normal pattern of life. Especially for the elderly and children, who have been affected by it the most. Many people have lost their loved ones to Covid-19, recent data suggests that in the US alone, approximately 921,984 people have died due to the pandemic.

NorthShore Clinical Labs, a high-performing Lab in Chicago, IL, has been working incessantly to provide some relief through these testing times. It not only provides standard testing services but also helps ease these issues via covid-19 testing, on-site support, charitable fundraising and donations, and other efforts.

Northshore processes up to 20,000 Covid-19 tests per day. The ultra-modern lab has all the equipment necessary to provide fast and effective results and it continues to expand its technological horizons to serve the people of Illinois better. It also provides support to various parts of the society to help make a positive impact throughout the country.

It has partnered with various agencies, businesses, and organizations such as churches, community clinics, nursing homes, schools, summer camps, and homelessness organizations to improve the overall quality of life for the entirety of the community.

Many health departments including the Illinois Department of Health, trust Northshore

Clinical Labs to provide high-quality Covid testing services to patients. Northshore Clinical Labs is currently supporting various organizations in local and non-local communities, some of them are as follows:

Nursing Homes and Other Care Facilities

The deadly surge of Covid-19 has made one thing clear – older people are at greater risk. According to statistics, it is more likely to be fatal for people above the age of 50, the more they age, the greater the vulnerability. Though people above the age of 65 only make up about 16.5% of the total US population, it has a mortality rate of about 75.5% of total covid-related deaths.

Many nursing homes and other care facilities provide shelter to these older people or people who can’t tend to themselves. They provide a better quality of life to senior and disabled populations.

But as the data suggests, they are high-risk areas as well. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Northshore Clinical Labs has helped support nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and independent living facilities by sending teams of testing experts to locations like Three Crowns   Park, Westminster Place, Bridgeview Healthcare Center, Greek American Rehabilitation and Care Center, and The Springs of Monarch Landing to test residents, staff, and visitors.

Teams from Northshore Clinical Labs have also supported vaccine drives at many different senior exclusive locations and helped pharmacy vaccine partners by providing staff to support these vaccine events.

Charter Schools

Social Interaction with peers and teachers helps in the holistic development of an individual. School is one of the best places to get unlimited exposure to these interactions. Schools are the first formal setting in anyone’s life where they can learn to socialize, solve problems and work in a team.

But with the advent of covid, children haven’t been able to attend schools physically. Since March 2021, Northshore Clinical Labs has been providing supportive COVID-19 testing services for the Learn Charter

School Network so that its students can continue to receive on-site education. Learn Charter is a 20-year-old network that provides tuition-free learning to more than 4000 students in Chicago, North Chicago, Waukegan, and Washington DC.

Northshore Clinical Labs will continue offering covid-19 services through May 2022. Our team prioritizes safety above all. It arrives at each location wearing full PPE gear to collect samples and give faster results.

Summer Camps

Recreational activities are an integral part of childhood. Children should interact with nature to grow into well-functioning adults. Pre-Covid, the responsibility to serve as a catalyst was of various summer camps organized every year. As summer camps involve a lot of social activities, they can put children and their families at risk.

During the summer of 2021, Northshore Clinical Labs stepped up to provide approximately 100 summer camps supportive testing services for campers and staff. Without these, many children wouldn’t have gotten the chance to participate. To make things easier and faster, teams from Northshore Clinical Labs brought testing supplies and PPE to each location and provided many PCR tests and returned results promptly to the camps.

Homeless Programs

The number of homeless people all over the country seems to be increasing at a rapid rate every year. Homeless people are the invisible victims of covid-19. With the pandemic spreading like wildfire, unsheltered people have nowhere to go. They resort to living on the streets or in severely unhygienic places where they are exposed to various diseases.

Northshore Clinical Labs decided to come to the aid of those who are underprivileged. It is the leading sponsor for the ShowerUp Program in Chicago. Starting in 2016, the ShowerUp non-profit organization provides people who are currently experiencing homelessness with hygiene resources and showers via mobile units in three locations.

Northshore also serves homeless populations in Huntsville Alabama, Nashville Tennessee, and Wichita in Kansas. In November 2021, Northshore Clinical Labs also decided to raise funds for ShowerUp and successfully raised $25,000 for the Chicago locations. Northshore Clinical Labs plans to continue to provide these and other supportive services to agencies, businesses, and organizations through the rest of 2022.

It hopes to increase its positive impact on communities both as a leader in medical testing and through its charitable pursuits.

The Northshore Clinical team is working round-the-clock to come up with new and improved ways of testing services that assure fast and accurate results regardless of the location, the event, or type of test.
