Florida Tech Lacrosse Player Kailee O’Brien Named Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech Panthers women’s lacrosse player Kailee O’Brien has been named the Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

O’Brien collected 11 ground balls and five caused turnovers to go along with one goal and one assist to guide Florida Tech to a 1-1 record last week. This is her first time receiving the award.

The Lewis Center, Ohio native recorded one ground ball and one caused turnover in the 15-4 blowout win over Palm Beach Atlantic on Wednesday. She then finished with a career-high 10 ground balls, four caused turnovers, one goal, and one assist in the Panthers’ 10-9 loss to Saint Leo on the road.

The senior’s 10 ground balls against the Lions are a school record and rank second in SSC women’s lacrosse history for most ground balls in a single game. O’Brien also surpassed 100 ground balls for her career and now sits at 103. She is the ninth Panther in program history to record 100 ground balls.

Florida Tech is back on the road on Wednesday, April 13, as the Panthers travel to Tampa, Florida to take on the Spartans. The game is set to begin at 5 p.m. at the Naimoli Athletic Complex.
