BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA BEACH, FLORIDA – A Melbourne woman has been arrested after she fled police on July 7 in a high-speed chase through Cocoa Beach while driving a motorcycle, causing police to abandon the chase due to her risky driving behavior that was a threat to the general public.

However, thanks to good police work and reviewing surveillance footage, police were able to identify and arrest her at her residence.

Savanah McPherson, 30, of Melbourne, was arrested for Reckless Driving and Fleeing & Eluding when she fled from Cocoa Beach Police Motor Officer Dan Eschbach on July 7, at about 1:40 P.M., as he attempted to stop her for multiple traffic violations.

Officer Eschbach first observed McPherson pull out of the Chevron, 400 N. Atlantic Ave., northbound on her motorcycle with no visible license plate.

Police say the motorcycle accelerated well above the posted speed limit and began dangerously weaving in and out of traffic to pass other vehicles, even passing vehicles in the same lane, as well as passing in the center turn lanes.

When Officer Eschbach attempted to stop McPherson, she fled and continued the same reckless driving pattern.

Due to the risk of danger to the general public, attempts to get this motorcycle stopped were terminated, police say.

Officer Eschbach proceeded to the Chevron where McPherson was first observed, reviewed surveillance footage and obtained a copy of McPherson’s receipt from her purchase.

This evidence was turned over to Cocoa Beach Investigative Analyst Deb Smith, who located all identifying information on McPherson.

Subsequently, Officer Eschbach positively identified McPherson as the motorcycle operator who fled.

Detective David Ortiz obtained an arrest warrant for McPherson, and while investigators took her into custody at her residence, they also observed the motorcycle in question inside her home.

A search warrant was obtained and the motorcycle was seized.

McPherson has charged with the following:

◾ Reckless Driving

◾ Fleeing & Eluding

◾ Driving While License Suspended/Revoked-Habitual Traffic Offender
