During a call for service while on shift, two members of the Titusville Fire Department met a very sweet elderly citizen who had called for their help to get off the ground. After assisting the needy citizen, the firefighters learned that she was no longer able to use her family room, which has her computer in it or check her mail safely because of her use of a walker and the different levels and steps in her home. After building the ramps, the firefighters then spent ample time making sure she was comfortable and able to use both. (TFD image)

BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – During a recent call for service while on shift, two members of the Titusville Fire Department met a very sweet elderly citizen who had called for their help to get off the ground.

After assisting the needy citizen, the firefighters learned that she was no longer able to use her family room, which has her computer in it, or check her mail safely because of her use of a walker and the different levels and steps in her home.

“These men then took it upon themselves to schedule a day to return to her home on their own time to build two walker accessible ramps and give our citizen the ability to safely enjoy her own home again,” said a post on the Titusville Professional Fire Fighters Local 2445 Facebook page.

After building the ramps, the firefighters then spent ample time making sure she was comfortable and able to use both.

“These opportunities to help our citizens both on and off the clock exemplify the desire to serve that our organization represents, and a massive thanks to Wescon Construction for their generous donation of all the necessary materials after our members reached out,” said a post on the Titusville Professional Fire Fighters Local 2445 Facebook page.

“Our personnel’s desire to serve and help those in need does not start when they arrive at work and end when they leave,” said a Titusville Fire Department official.

“We are proud of our members and their desire to go above and beyond to make a difference in our community, on and off the clock. Job well done!”
