BREVARD COUNTY • SHARPES, FLORIDA – Brevard County Sheriff Wayne personally walked another animal cruelty and abuse suspect into the Brevard County jail in Sharpes and highlighted one of the most egregious cases he has seen during his long career.

Arrested and charged with animal abuse is Erica Black, 32, who was already in jail for the recent alleged stabbing of her 68-year-old roommate and faces charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

“This woman, Erica Black, is without question the most despicable excuse for a human being I’ve ever seen in my life,” said Sheriff Ivey in reference to a video that shows Black drowning her chihuahua “Sadie” last October.

Black was already in jail on charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon for allegedly stabbing a 68-year-old man twice.

“The video of her drowning her chihuahua is the most horrific thing I’ve ever seen in my life,” said Sheriff Ivey.

“I’m not going to show you the entire video because it is so graphic and so disgusting, it makes me sick. There’s a special place in hell for this woman, and until she gets there, she’s going to rot in our jail.”

Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey said they found out that last October, because of a video Black’s roommate provided, she held her dog’s head below the water for several minutes, which struggled before drowning. Black then slammed the dead dog against the pool deck several times. (BCSO image)

“If I hear she has as much as a pet rock, I will lose my crap because this woman doesn’t deserve to have anything; she deserves to rot in jail,” said Sheriff Ivey.
