Many Floridians will be keeping a close eye on the Florida Tech Panthers men’s basketball team, which competes in the highly-competitive NCAA DII Conference, as we head into the new season.

The roster contains multiple great players like Darragh O’Sullivan and Elias Martin. But here are 3 up and coming Florida Tech players that you will want to watch in 2022-23.

1. Josh Mims

Josh Mims got off to a good start in the 2021-22 season, making 22 appearances with the Florida Tech Panthers men’s basketball team.

During the last season, he averaged 3.6 points, 1.0 assists per game, and 0.7 rebounds. And at Nova Southeastern, Mims recorded a career-high with 12 points. So, he is undoubtedly one to watch in the 2022-23 season. 

Before joining Florida Tech, he attended Melbourne Central Catholic in Melbourne, Florida. He played for West Melbourne Select for four years. Mims was also a member of England’s U15 National Team and the GB U18 National Team.

And many remember Mims for his accomplishment of winning the 2021 East Coast United Senior Showcase 3-Point Shooting Contest.

2. Sam Grant

During the 2021-22 season, as a true freshman, Sam Grant played 18 games with two starts and averaged 5.4 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. He recorded a career-high of 15 points playing against Palm Beach Athletic.

Prior to playing for Florida Tech, Grant played three seasons with England’s Reading Rockets in the country’s National Basketball League Division 1, in which he started 13 out of 21 games in 2021 and averaged 9 points and 5 rebounds per game.

He was also a member of England’s U15 National Team and GB’s U16, U18, and U20 National Teams. Grant was even selected to play in the 2019 All-Star 5 at the Cherbourg International U18 Tournament.

It is early days for Grant at Florida Tech, but he is certainly a player that you will want to keep a close eye on as we enter the 2022-23 season.

3. Timi Tolu Ogunkoya

If there is one player that is expected to make headlines during the 2022-23 season, it is new signing Timi Tolu Ogunkoya, who was signed to Florida Tech in the summer.

At 6 foot 8 inches tall and carrying 200 pounds, Toluogunkoya looks set to add a flavor of excitement to upcoming games. 

During his previous year with NJCAA DI Coffeyville Community College, the Houston-born forward appeared in 23 games with five starts and averaged 3.3 points and 2.7 rebounds per game.

Also, in his freshman campaign, Toluogunkoya recorded 19 blocks and 7 steals.

Furthermore, the young star has international experience. He played one season for England’s Thames Valley Cavaliers in the English NBL 1 Men’s National League, where he averaged 4.1 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 block per game, and shot 68% from the floor.
