WATCH: Cocoa Police Swears in Adan Aviles as Department’s Newest Officer During Special Ceremony

WATCH: Cocoa Police Chief Evander Collier IV administered the Oath of Office to Adan Aviles, 34, who was sworn in during a special ceremony in the presence of family, friends and police department personnel.

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Cocoa Police Chief Evander Collier IV administered the Oath of Office to a new police officer Friday morning.

Adan Aviles, 34, was sworn in during a special ceremony in the presence of family, friends, and police department personnel. He was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, but grew up in Boston, Massachusetts. He moved to Florida in 2004.

Aviles is the second oldest of eight siblings and half-siblings. After working in private security, he decided to become a law enforcement officer where he believes he can make a positive difference in people’s lives.

In September of 2021, Aviles graduated from the Criminal Justice Academy at Valencia College. He is the only member of his family to pursue a law enforcement career.

Aviles is married and has a son, and enjoys playing basketball, cooking, weightlifting, and spending time with his wife, family and friends.

Aviles will spend the next several months learning the department’s policies and procedures. He will be assigned to a field training officer to know all the operational procedures of the job.

Upon successfully completing the training, he will be assigned to a squad and deployed for solo patrol duties.
