BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – Former offensive coordinator Mykel Benson has been selected as Heritage High School’s new football head coach.

Benson was the offensive assistant/coordinator for the Panthers last season. Prior to that, he was on the Bayside Bears coaching staff which happens to be his alma mater as well.

Last season, the Panther’s offense finished with 18 total touchdowns and nearly 3,000 all-purpose yards.

A graduate of Bayside High back in 2006, Benson is a member of the Bears hall of fame. After High School, he attended Florida A&M University and eventually went on to become a standout player in the Arena League Football league.

This coaching change comes after former head coach Mark Ainsley stepped down after nine seasons. Heritage finished 5-5 last year.
