Aaron Sherinian – Demonstrating the Importance of Global Connection
By Space Coast Daily // January 12, 2023

The pace of globalization has increased dramatically, in part due to the popularity of digital communications which are now a staple of everyday life.
This expansion of international communication has greatly impacted society in various ways.
The elimination of communication barriers by technological devices has made society more interconnected than ever before, making the world smaller, expanding business opportunities, and enhancing cultural education across international borders.
Given the rapid pace of globalization and its effects on citizens around the globe, organizations should think of global communications as key in strategic planning and business development.
Everything from small florist shops to educational institutions, local hospitals, social organizations, and groups of every ilk and nature is, or soon will be irrevocably changed by the influence of global communication.
Currently, people are looking for additional ways to stay connected to and communicate with one another as the world “shrinks” every year, whether for social, political, or business reasons. The way and pace at which we communicate with one another are being driven by technology.
The global communication portfolio is becoming a reality, not just a luxury, in most companies, whether focused on markets at home or abroad.
It has also taken center stage in most boardroom debates. Whether or not you are focused on global issues, organizations need a global communications function. While it is crucial for businesses to embrace a more global perspective and aspire to become culturally competent, it is also crucial for them to take into account the technology, or means, by which communication takes place.
Technology or the medium of communication is simply one factor, but it is indeed a significant one for effective communication.
Organizations can improve or become more adept at global communication and experience increased performance and a healthier bottom line if they are equipped with a global perspective and cultural competence. Aaron Sherinian became a leading expert in the field, driven to address both the opportunities and challenges with global communications.
Starting his academic journey at Brigham Young University, he received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Italian Literature in 1996 and graduated from the academic institution with honors. He received his master’s degree in International Relations and Economics from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies in Washington, D.C.
Throughout his career, one of Sherinian’s top priorities has been to help the rest of the world realize that Americans are, in fact, interested in and aware of what is occurring outside their borders.
During his early career days, Sherinian served as the Managing Director of Public Affairs at the Millennium Challenge Corporation, a U.S. Government development assistance agency administering $7 billion in poverty reduction grants in 40 partner countries.
He held several diplomatic positions at the Embassies of the United States in Ecuador, Colombia, Costa Rica, and Armenia, as well as in Washington under two different Assistant Secretaries of State. Sherinian was also known for using new media to create events that connect colleagues across sectors.
He also served as Chief Communications and Marketing Officer for the United Nations Foundation from 2009 to 2017. Sherinian is recognized for his role in the establishment of several cause engagement campaigns, some of which include the Global Moms Challenge, #GivingTuesday, the Social Good Summit, The Girl Up Campaign, and the International Day of Happiness.
All his commendable efforts earned his team the title of PR News Non-Profit Team of the Year in 2012, 2013, and 2015, respectively
This range of international experiences informed his passion to connect people across boundaries and geographies, using the best communication tools and practices. He was also aided by his outgoing personality.
In many of his interviews, Sherinian has mentioned that being an extrovert runs in his DNA. Technology has enabled him to supersize this trait and assist many people around the globe.
He once said, “Communication matters because it’s about matching the policy priorities and the public affairs priorities in capitals and boardrooms where people make these decisions,” proving the importance of global communications and its effectiveness in both strengthening the world economy as well as the common bonds and shared values that unite us all.
