Brevard Deputies Charge Woman With DUI Manslaughter After Fatal Vehicle vs. Motorcycle Crash in Palm Bay

BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – Brevard County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Markeysia Shanay Durden, 32, of Palm Bay, who was then charged with DUI manslaughter after a fatal vehicle vs. motorcycle crash last Friday.

According to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, the fatal crash happened when Durden was driving northbound on Babcock Street SE and attempted to make a left turn on Cogan Drive SE. The motorcyclist was heading south on Babcock Street SE and struck Durden’s vehicle.

Following a field sobriety test, Deputies determined Durden was impaired and transported to a local hospital for medical clearance. According to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, Durden admitted that she smoked cannabis the morning of the crash.

The motorcyclist, who was pronounced dead at the scene, has not yet been identified by authorities.

Durden is being held in the Brevard County Jail on a $15,500 bond.
