Justice Mitchell First Elite DI Experience
By Space Coast Daily // January 21, 2023
Justice Mitchell was invited to Radford University D1 Elite Basketball camp located at the home arena, the Donald N. Dedmon Center, 101 University Dr, Radford, VA 24141.
The three-and-a-half-hour drive up to the campus was enough time for the 6’5” – 200lbs small forward sophomore to think about what the atmosphere would be like, the competition, and what would be demanded by him from the coaches.
Upon arriving to the campus – everything from the student/athletes that he met at the door to the trainers and coaches was what he thought it would be.
The professionalism & customer service at check-in was a sight to see. The only thing Justice could think about was showing off his skills to a gym full of college coaches and other players. Justice was officially measured at 6’5” weighing roughly 200 lbs even with a wingspan of 6’7”.
Workouts and drills kicked off at approximately 9:30 am after a brief tour of the gymnasium and trainer’s facilities. There were approximately six different workout stations with multiple coaches including the head coach who participated in the drills.
After the drills were completed Justice Mitchell was then teamed up with other players other than his friends that arrived with him who were Rodney Poston and Preston Copeland both from Clayton, NC.
Justice was able to demonstrate his ball-handling skills under intense pressure, passing, scoring, blocking shots, and playing above the rim defensively along with finishing at the rim with either hand offensively.
IN CONCLUSION
At the end of the day, the head coach of Radford Men’s Basketball gave an intense speech about what it takes to play at the next level and the training and hard work that is required of a D1 student/athlete.
When it was over Justice thought to himself that all of the training and academics that he is getting in now – will pay off in the long run for his future.
