Florida Tech’s Softball Team Blanks Wingate 2-0 on the Final Day of Panther Invitational

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech Panthers softball team earns a 2-0 victory over the Wingate Bulldogs on the final day of the Panthers Invitational.

Wingate’s leadoff hitter singled to start the game, but Jolie Miracle showed off her arm throwing her out at second on a steal to clear the bases.

Mikayla Lewin’s sacrifice fly brought home Cheyenne Nelson from third.

Sam Guider struck out back-to-back batters to end the second inning.

Miracle’s single in the 5th inning brought home Layna Pollock from third to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead.

In the top of the 6th, the first batter up hit a hard ball to the gap in between left and center field. Freshman Ella Niles tracked the ball down making one heck of a play in left field for the out.

Florida Tech wrapped up the game in the top of the 7th with a 1,2,3, inning to secure the victory.

Sam Guider picked up her second win of the season. She threw four innings, allowing three hits, one walk, and no runs. Guider had three strikeouts.

Alli Platon got the save throwing three innings. Platon allowed no hits and had one strikeout.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

■ Florida Tech is now 2-2 against Wingate in the all-time series.

■ Cheyenne Nelson went 2-3 at the plate. Nelson is on a 5-game hitting streak and ranked 2nd in the SSC with 17 hits.

■ Jolie Miracle was 2-3 at the plate with an RBI.

■ This is the first game of the season; Tech held their opponent to 0 runs.

■ For the second time this season, the Panthers produced 9 hits.

UP NEXT: Florida Tech will host Nova Southeastern in their first home series on Friday, Feb. 17th. The first pitch is set for 6 PM.
