BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA — Palm Bay police officers arrested Palm Bay City Councilman Pete Filiberto, 34, on Saturday night at about 9 p.m. and charged him with DUI and possessing 10.6 grams of cocaine in his shoe, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Filiberto, who was elected to the city council last November, was also charged with reckless driving, no motorcycle endorsement, refusing a field sobriety test, and driving while license suspended/revoked with knowledge.

According to the probable cause affidavit, an officer did a traffic stop on Filiberto after observing him riding his motorcycle at a high rate of speed near Huckleberry Street and Lipscomb Streets. Filiberto attempted to make a U-turn to elude the officer and fell over.

The probable cause affidavit said an officer pulled up and noticed the smell of alcohol on Filiberto’s breath and took him into custody and he then refused the field sobriety test.

Filiberto was taken to Palm Bay Hospital for medical clearance and later booked into the Brevard County Jail and then released on bond.
