The Eastern and Western Conferences each have a roster of two guards and three frontcourts selected for the tournament. The top picks for each conference have been chosen carefully and highlight the talented pool of players.
This table showcases the picks from each conference, highlighting the top picks competing in the tournament.
Position | Conference | Player | Team |
G | Eastern | Donovan Mitchell | Cavaliers |
G | Eastern | Kyrie Irving | Nets |
F | Eastern | Giannis Antetokounmpo | Bucks |
F | Eastern | Jayson Tatum | Celtics |
F | Eastern | Kevin Durant | Nets |
G | Western | Stephen Curry | Warriors |
G | Western | Luka Doncic | Mavericks |
F | Western | LeBron James | Lakers |
F | Western | Zion Williamson | Pelicans |

As you can see, it’s an All-Star showdown. Legendary Lakers star LeBron James is suiting up in the Western Conference alongside his record-tying 19th selection. Meanwhile, reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Bucks will lead a powerful Eastern Conference roster into a battle for glory.
The Rising Stars event will be a star-studded affair as 21 of the NBA’s best players will participate in three teams. The games will be headed up by all-time coaches like Pau Gasol, Joakim Noah, and Deron Williams. Also, fans will get a chance to witness Jason Terry lead an elite squad from the G League.
Jaylen Brown and Joel Embiid missed the cut for their respective Eastern Conference lineups. Still, this was impressive, with a weighted score of 2.75 for Brown and 3.5 for Embiid.
On the other hand, Ja Morant and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander put up an incredible fight in the West backcourt. But Anthony Davis edged them out with a weighted score of 4.75, barely missing selection over other frontrunners such as Lauri Markkanen with 5.75 or Domantas Sabonis, who came out on top at 6.5.
How The NBA All-Star Voting Process Works
Usually, fans have their say through voting as well as input from media members and current players. In addition, two captains from each conference get to choose teams based on their favorite criteria.
The reserves are chosen by the NBA head coaches, and if need be, Adam Silver, the league commissioner, may choose replacements for injured players. Upon determining the eligible players, the All-Star captains draft their teams.
