RV There Yet? visited the Space Coast, highlighting various attractions up and down Brevard County. While visiting Intracoastal Brewing Company, the hosts received their first mission stamp in the Beer Trail Passport.

BPS SPOTLIGHTS CAREER TECHNICAL EDUCATION TO SUPPORT GROWING NEED, EDC GRANT SUPPORTS PROGRAM

In 2022, 53 percent of BPS students enrolled in college immediately following high school. That means there is ample opportunity for the other 47 percent to look to jobs in the skilled trades.

One of the programs that’s getting more interest is the Aviation Fabrication and Assembly program at Eau Gallie High School. Its instructor, Bill McInnish, was awarded the Thomas E. Gamble Excellence in Education for Economic Development Award from the Economic Development Commission (EDC) of Florida’s Space Coast.

He said one of the reasons why the program has been able to become as successful as it has been is thanks to the generosity of industries in the community. The EDC gave them a $40,000 grant spread over three years as the program was ramping up and Embraer Foundation also provided a $10,000 grant for materials.

Space Coast Remains in Top Ten of U-Haul Index

For the second year, the Space Coast MSA has been in top 10 growth cities on the annual U-Haul Growth Index. Do-it-yourself movers arriving in the Sunshine State accounted for 50.7% of all one-way U-Haul truck traffic and the Space Coast MSA ranked 4th in the nation for net gain of one-way U-Haul® trucks during the past year.

The Space Coast market cracked the index in 2020 as the No. 23 growth city and has rocketed up since.

Southern Metros Dominate the List of Biggest Boomtowns

Lending Tree ranked and scored the 100 largest metros across eight unique metrics grouped into three categories: people and housing, work and earnings, and business and economy. Southern metros dominated the list of the biggest boomtowns. The Space Coast MSA ranked 5th in Metros with the most growth in people in the workforce, 10th in work and earnings and 16th overall.

For the second straight year, Rockledge, Florida-based Health First has been named among “America’s Best Large Employers” for 2023 by Forbes. In a survey of 45,000 U.S. employees, Health First landed in the top 200 nationally on the list highlighting organizations with more than 5,000 employees.Jumping nearly 250 spots – from 407 in 2022 to 159 this year – Health First was one of only three hospitals or healthcare systems in Florida named to the list and one of only 35 hospital or healthcare systems nationally named to the list. Additionally, Health First is one of only 18 Florida-based companies named to the list.

The education services company The Princeton Review named the online MBA program at Florida Tech’s Bisk College of Business as one of the 50 best in the nation for 2023. Florida Tech was one of just two private universities in Florida on The Princeton Review’s 2023 Top 50 Online MBA Programs, along with Florida Southern. The ranking is based on a combination of institutional and student survey data, including career outcomes, technological infrastructure, academic rigor, cost and affordability.

Port Canaveral for the first time became the world’s busiest cruise port in 2022 with 4,072,396 multi-day passengers, just topping PortMiami’s 4,022,544. ‘We’ve always aimed to be the best cruise port in the world, but what an achievement to now be known as the busiest,’ Port Canaveral CEO Capt. John Murray said. ‘This historic milestone is testament to the efforts of our team and cruise partners to provide a best in class experience for all cruise guests sailing from Port Canaveral.’

Congratulations to Dana Kilborne, for being named a 2023 Laureate Inductee to the JA Space Coast Business Hall of Fame. 2023 Laureates will be honored April 1, 2023 at the Clemente Center at Florida Tech.

Congratulations to Teri Jones, the recipient of WeVENTURE’s 2023 Women Who Rock Excellence in Caregiving Award. Jones founded METCA-ECC, a local healthcare program which actively promotes and facilitates workforce development for the underserved and disadvantaged population for healthcare careers. The EDC is proud to have nominated Teri for this distinguished award and congratulates her and all the winners and nominees.

Space Florida President and CEO Frank DiBello will retire June 30, Space Florida announced Wednesday. DiBello has led Space Florida, the state’s aerospace development authority, for 14 years. Read more via Orlando Business Journal here.
