CDC Reports Norovirus Outbreak Aboard Caribbean Princess Ahead of Port Canaveral Arrival Monday

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is reporting a norovirus outbreak aboard the Caribbean Princess cruise ship, which is scheduled to arrive at Port Canaveral on Monday.

BREVARD COUNTY • PORT CANAVERAL, FLORIDA – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is reporting a norovirus outbreak aboard the Caribbean Princess cruise ship, which is scheduled to arrive at Port Canaveral on Monday.

According to a CDC report issued May 7, 102 passengers and 13 crew members reported illness during the voyage.

The Caribbean Princess is wrapping up a 13-day cruise that departed from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale on April 28, according to Princess Cruises.

Norovirus commonly causes symptoms such as diarrhea and vomiting.

The CDC said Princess Cruises and the ship’s crew have intensified cleaning and disinfection measures, collected stool samples from those affected, and isolated ill passengers and crew members.

Princess Cruises said in a statement Saturday that a limited number of guests experienced mild gastrointestinal illness during the voyage.

The Caribbean Princess is wrapping up a 13-day cruise that departed from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale on April 28, according to Princess Cruises.

“Princess Cruises can confirm that a limited number of individuals reported mild gastrointestinal illness during the April 28 Caribbean Princess voyage from Port Everglades,” the company said.

“We quickly disinfected every area of the ship and added extra sanitizing throughout the voyage. Upon arrival to Port Canaveral on May 11, Caribbean Princess will undergo comprehensive cleaning and disinfection before departing for her next voyage.”

A Port Canaveral spokesperson confirmed the Caribbean Princess is expected to arrive Monday morning.
