As severe weather passed through the Space Coast on Sunday, a suspected lightning strike killed one boater and injured another near the Pineda Causeway and U.S. Hwy. 1, according to Brevard County Fire Rescue officals.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – As severe weather passed through the Space Coast on Sunday, a suspected lightning strike killed one boater and injured another near the Pineda Causeway and U.S. Hwy. 1, according to Brevard County Fire Rescue officials.

Brevard County Fire Rescue officials said Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers brought the patients to BCFR, including deceased victim.

The injured boater was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Neither boater has been identified by officials at this point.

The National Weather Service had issued a special weather statement for the area at 3:45 p.m. and advised residents and guests to seek shelter until the system passes through.
