PETER CRANIS: Cellular Data Shows Domestic Visitors to Brevard Was Approximately 22.4 Million in 2022

64% of travelers stayed on the Space Coast overnight – about 14.4 million people

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – I recently received a report from our cellular data company, Motion Works, and it was very interesting. It showed domestic visitors to our area that stayed more than two hours was approximately 22.4 million in 2022.
Motion Works is able to track visitors based on the GPS in their phones, so it doesn’t track people who may not have smartphones or kids who don’t have phones at all. It also doesn’t track any international cellular devices.
But, given that, 22.4 million is certainly an impressive number, especially when you think about the fact that about two million passengers come and go through Port Canaveral.
The reason we set the minimum time at two hours is that it would account for people who might just be driving through to go somewhere else, so the 22.4 million number takes into consideration that some of the traffic we see here is “pass-through” traffic, meaning they are driving through the county, not really stopping for a full day or overnight.
Also, we estimate that 64% of travelers are staying here overnight, which would be about 14.4 million people. Here are the numbers by month:
