(U.S. COAST GUARD) – The United States Coast Guard, along with partner agencies, interdicted 1,469 kilograms of cocaine worth over $61 million.

According to officials, nine total suspects were detained by the U.S. Coast Guard for prosecution.

The contraband captured will be used as evidence during prosecution and then destroyed.

A large fraction of the drugs discovered came from the efforts of Coast Guard Cutter Forward’s crew, who made their interdiction 71 miles south of the Dominican Republic, where they detained three suspects and found 22 bales of cocaine.
