Merritt Island Man Arrested for ‘Car Surfing’ at Home Depot Parking Lot, Brevard Deputies Say

BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – A Merritt Island man was arrested on Monday after deputies say he was ‘car surfing’ in the Home Depot parking lot in Merritt Island.

The suspect arrested was 36-year-old Michael Banks from Merritt Island.

According to the investigation, deputies say the man was jumping from car to car in a Home Depot parking lot in Merritt Island, which resulted in thousands of dollars in damage to the vehicles.

A witness first saw incident around 1:55 p.m. when the suspect jumped on top of a van and then jumped onto a Nissan Truck.

Banks then jumped from the truck onto an SUV, a Jeep, an SUV and a sedan, causing damage to the hoods and roofs of multiple vehicles, according to the affidavit.

Deputies said the owners of the Nissan truck and sedan estimated the cost to repair the damage would be over $1,000 each.

Banks faces two counts of criminal mischief costing more than $1,000. He is being held in the Brevard County jail on a $2,000 bond.
