BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College women’s volleyball team defeated No. 5 Salt Lake Community College in four sets to remain unbeaten on the season.
The Titans, who are now 6-0 and ranked 18th in the preseason poll, won the first set 25-20 before losing the second set 25-18. But the team would win the next two sets, 25-14 and 25-20 to beat their second-ranked opponent of the season.
The Titans led from the start in the first set as Sophia Knowles and Paulina Dobrinova each came up big early to give the Titans the first set.
Salt Lake Community College jumped out to a fast start in the second set, leading 9-1 and then 11-2 before Emma Kiser recorded a couple of aces and a kill as the Titans cut the lead to 11-6. That would be as close as they would get as the Bruins cruised to a 25-18 win to tie the match 1-1.
The third set was close until a Kiser kill followed by an ace by Sofia Kamke gave the Titans a 16-9 lead. The lead would grow to 20-11 after a Bobbie Schwantz kill. Flavia Romanelli finished the third set off with a couple of kills and Rachele Braccio had a big block late.
The two teams traded points throughout the fourth set as it was tied 11 times with Kamke taking over late to propel the Titans. Leading 19-18, Kamke had back-to-back kills and then served two straight aces to finish the match and give the Titans the win.
Eastern Florida State College will wrap up the Chapman Automotive AWC Invitational with a match against No. 13 Eastern Arizona at 6 p.m. EST.
