NHC: Brevard County Now Under Tropical Storm Warning as Idalia Curns into the Gulf, Predicted to Become Cat 3 Hurricane

ON THE SPACE COAST: Strong gusty winds up to 57 MPH, especially in squalls
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA (NHC) – The National Hurricane Center has issued a Tropical Storm Watch on Monday night for Brevard County, which means there are tropical storm conditions possible within 48 hours.
Tropical Storm Idalia is expected to strengthen to a hurricane before it makes landfall over Florida, possibly near the state’s Big Bend area.
The National Hurricane Center has predicted rapid strengthening during the next 24 hours and Idalia could become a hurricane at any time. Idalia is forecast to become a major hurricane by late Tuesday or Tuesday night, with tropical-storm-force winds extending up to 150 miles from the center.
Tropical Storm Idalia is forecast to become a major Category 3 hurricane on its path to Florida this week, and if you have any last minute preparations, have them completed by Tuesday morning as conditions will begin to deteriorate on the Space Coast by Tuesday afternoon and continue through Wednesday.
The threats to east central Florida are:
■ Strong gusty winds, especially in squalls
■ Rainfall amounts 2-3″, locally higher totals of 4-5″
■ A few tornadoes
