Whether you have recently purchased an e-cigarette starter kit, or you are considering taking up vaping, your reasons for reading this article are your own.

Regardless of exactly why you have chosen to begin vaping, it would be both useful and informative to learn as much as you can.

With this in mind, continue reading to discover a beginner’s guide to vaping.

What Are the Basic Ingredients of E-Liquid?

E-liquid, regardless of the brand or indeed, the cost, usually consists of just three basic ingredients: flavorings, propylene glycol (PG), and vegetable glycerin (PG).

Propylene Glycol

PG is a substance that is regular used by companies and individuals working in the food and drink industry as a preservative. PG is an entirely transparent liquid that tastes slightly sweet and has a considerably lower level of viscosity than VG.

Vegetable Glycerin

VG is also used in the food and drink industry, both as a food thickener and a food sweetener. VG can either be derived from plants and animals, or synthetically manmade and is thicker than PG, which helps to create a larger and denser vape cloud.

What are the Benefits of Disposable Vapes?

You may well have noticed a significant rise in the number of people using disposable vapes over the last few years and this is due to the number of impressive benefits that choosing the disposable variety provides.

There are many benefits to choosing to use a selection of disposable vapes, not least the simple fact that such devices are considerably more affordable than expensive and “showier” vaping units.

Due to this reduction in the weekly and/or monthly amount that someone who vapes spends on disposables, there is much less stress and worry should they misplace or lose their vape, and moreover, it is much more affordable to carry a spare should their primary disposable run out.

Other key benefits of disposable vapes include their ease of use (which makes them perfect for people who are new to vaping) and the lightweight nature of the device.

What Actually is an Electronic Cigarette?

An electronic cigarette, more commonly referred to as a vape or an e-cig, regardless of the specific brand and model, will usually consist of the same fundamental components, which are as follows:

  • An Atomizer Coil

Atomizer coils (also known as resistance coils) are what provide the heating element to your electronic cigarette. As soon as the button on the side of the unit is pressed, the battery works to heat the atomizer coil, which then heats the e-liquid in the tank and then produces the hit on the back of the throat and the vapor cloud.

  • A Mouthpiece

As you would expect, the mouthpiece is the section of your vaping unit that allows you to vape and is often alternatively referred to as the drip piece. The mouthpiece can come in a huge variety of different designs, colors, and sizes depending on the unit itself.

  • E-Liquid

The e-liquid, or vape liquid, is the cheapest and most changeable element of your vaping experience and there are a seemingly endless number of different flavors from which you can choose. As mentioned above, e-liquid comes in different PG and VG ratings, and there is also the option of those with nicotine content for those people who are giving up smoking cigarettes or cigars.

  • The Tank

The tank is the chamber holding the e-liquid, with disposable vapes being completely sealed and pod units having an entirely replaceable tank, which can also be cleaned and reused with different flavors.

  • Wicking Thread

Wicking material is positioned around the atomizer coil and is usually made from cotton extract, allowing the e-liquid to move from the tank to the coil. If you ever experience a burnt or unpleasant taste when vaping, this is more than likely due to the cotton wick either not being saturated enough in the liquid, or it needs replacing.

  • The Battery

Finally, the battery attached to your vaping unit is another element that can vary greatly depending on the unit and can be as powerful as 2500mph to the small and weaker 180mph.

DTL and MTL Vaping

There are basically two differing styles of vaping: DTL (direct to lung) and MTL (mouth to lung), with the latter tending to be the style for people who are new to using e-cigarettes.

MTL vaping emulates smoking cigarettes and indeed feels considerably more natural—especially for those who are trying to stop smoking.

DTL, on the other hand, is usually the preference of more seasoned vapers, specifically for those who are looking for the largest amount of cloud vapor after every exhalation.
