Melbourne Police have released the identity of the shooting victim of a fatal shooting that happened late Wednesday night at a UMart convenience store at 653 E. University Blvd.

BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – Palm Bay Police announced they have arrested a man in connection with a deadly shooting late Tuesday at a convenience store.

According to the investigation, police responded to the 7-Eleven at Bayside Lakes Blvd. around 11:45 p.m. when they found a man with multiple gunshot wounds.

The man was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead, police say.

A short time later, police in Indian River County spotted a vehicle that matched the description of the suspected vehicle involved in the shooting.

After attempting to pull over the suspect in the vehicle, the suspect attempted to flee police and lead authorities on a high-speed chase.

Police eventually utilized stop sticks to bring the vehicle to a stop and take the suspect in the vehicle into custody.

The suspect arrested is identified as 23-year-old Evan Armon Chambliss.

Chambliss has been turned over to the Palm Bay Police Department for First-Degree murder and Armed Carjacking.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family. This act was one of pure evil. This is the only way to describe the heinous actions of the individual,” said Palm Bay police Chief Mario Augello.

“Through the collaborative efforts of 7-Eleven, the quick actions of our officers and deputies with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, Chambliss was arrested before he could endanger the lives of anyone else. There is no evidence that he knew the victim. This crime was one of opportunity that ended with the senseless murder of an innocent man.”
