Melbourne Police SWAT Team Runs Over 6 Miles in Honor of Late MPD Officer Joseph Pellican

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Melbourne Police SWAT Team honored late Officer Joseph Pellicano who was killed in the line of duty in 1986.

In his honor, the Team ran a 6.68-mile run throughout the city of Melbourne, passing the Joseph Pellicano Law Enforcement Center, which is under construction.

The SWAT Team ended the run at headquarters on Apollo Boulevard.

“Thank you for your service Officer Pellicano, you are always remembered,” said Melbourne Police.

On October 17, 1986, Officer Joseph Pellican was fatally struck by a vehicle while directing traffic at an early morning house fire scene.

Officer Pellicano was a 3.5-year veteran of the Melbourne Police Department and had been awarded the department’s exceptional service bar. He was also recognized for rescuing someone from a burning house at great personal risk.

Officer Pellicano was active in the community and coached for the Melbourne Police Athletic League (PAL).

He attended Brevard Community College and was working towards earning his Associate of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice. Officer Pellicano is survived by his wife Marion Pellicano-Ambrose and their son Joseph John Pellicano.
