MELBOURNE POLICE: Elderly Man Crashes Vehicle After Suffering Seizure, Listed in Critical Condition

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — The Melbourne Police Department received 911 calls regarding an elderly man who had a seizure and crashed into the construction site at 1050 S. Babcock Street, formerly the Sears building, on Friday, March 7, at approximately 1:51 pm.
The identity of the driver is not being released at this time.
According to Melbourne Police Sgt. Benjamin Slover, officers, and Melbourne Fire crews discovered an elderly male who had crashed his vehicle through a perimeter fence on the northwest corner of the property.
“The vehicle then struck a parked vehicle and came to rest a short distance away,” said Sgt. Slover.
“The driver was not breathing and unresponsive. Emergency Medical Care was provided, and he ultimately began breathing but was not responsive.”
Sgt. Slover said a preliminary investigation revealed the driver suffered a medical episode, which likely caused the crash. Assessment at the hospital is ongoing, and the victim is listed in critical condition.
