BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Call it what you want; the BBQ Bowl, the biggest rivalry on the Space Coast (of course that’s up for debate), or simply – Cocoa vs Rockledge.

The Cocoa Tigers enter this matchup as defending State Champions with an 8-1 record on the season. The Rockledge Raiders on the other hand are 5-4 on the season.

Cocoa has won the last three BBQ bowls in a row and leads in the series overall with a 26-8 record between the two.

Quarterback Brady Hart of the Tigers has thrown for 2,443 yards, 30 TDs, and has thrown 8 interceptions. Offensively this unit is led by a strong offensive line group that all returned from last year’s State Championship team.

With the strong trench play upfront, the Cocoa offense has been balanced all season long with 4-star Ohio State commit WR Jayvan Boggs standing out among the rest with a record-breaking 17 touchdowns this season.

Defensively, the Tigers have been tasked with defending some of the most challenging programs up and down the state. The team has totaled 684 tackles and 41 sacks through 9 games.

Linebacker Dai’veon Parham and Linebacker Samadrae Hawkins are averaging over 10 tackles per game, three players with 2 interceptions on the season along with Defensive End Javion Hilson leading the team with 8 sacks this season.

Overall, when you think of a well-balanced football team in all three phases, look no further than the 2023 Cocoa Tigers.

The Rockledge Raiders will be challenged with a hard task Friday Night as they look to defend their home field against the defending State Champions.

Quarterback Traven Green has 11 touchdown passes on the season while young rising star ATH Jamarcus Giscombe leads the team with 10 total touchdowns.

As a team, the Raiders have a total of 1,844 yards of offense on the season.

UCF Knights commits ATH Jaylen Heyward and Linebacker DJ Mccormick lead the way on defense. Heyward has six interceptions and 98 total tackles on the season and Mccormick is averaging 10 tackles per game. Not exactly the numbers we were expecting to see but the all-around talent has been asked to do a lot more than catch the ball.

Rockledge has 481 total tackles and 21 sacks on the season heading into their final regular-season game.

The 45th BBQ Bowl has all the makings of a classic! It is a game a lot of people have been pointing to since the beginning of the season.

Both teams would like to carry a BBQ Bowl win with them as the playoffs begin. Which one will it be? If you can’t make it to the game, tune in to Space Coast Daily for the Friday Night Locker Room’s broadcast of the “Game of the Year” to find out!
