BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Florida Tech baseball team honored eight seniors, Josh Ford, Mitch Harding, Sean Means, Danny Vassallo, Tyler Vermillion, Carlos Guzman, Tate Hansen, and Gavin McGowan, before the start of Sunday’s Sunshine State Conference match-up with Palm Beach Atlantic.

The Panthers ultimately fell to the Sailfish, 5-1, in the contest. A leadoff double led to a run for PBA in the top of the first inning after an RBI single from Sal Grinstead.

Three singles from Gabe Garrett, Brett Kelly, and Jason Blackstone loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the third inning, but a strikeout would end the threat and keep the game at 1-0.

In the top of the fifth inning, a single and a double for the Sailfish added another run and pushed the lead to 2-0.

Garrett led off the bottom of the fifth with a hustle-double into left field. A flyout advanced him to third, and an RBI groundout from Jacob Guthrie brought him home to cut the lead down to 2-1.

PBA tacked on two more runs in the top of the seventh on three hits and two walks to push the lead to 4-1.

A sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth extended the Sailfish lead to 5-1.

Marshall Burke led off the bottom of the same inning with a single and stole second. A wild pitch on ball four to Gavin McGowan put runners on the corners with two outs.

Garrett smacked a ball toward the right side, but a great play from the second basemen nailed him at first and ended the threat.

Kelly led off the bottom of the ninth with a double but would be tagged out after sliding too far past the bag. The next two Panthers would ground out to the shortstop to end the game with a final score of 5-1.
