The Florida District 22 All-Star Tournament for 2024 continued Saturday night with 8/9/10 Softball and 9/10/11 Baseball Division at Mims Little League’s Holder Park.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Florida District 22 All-Star Tournament for 2024 continued Saturday night with 8/9/10 Softball and 9/10/11 Baseball Division at Mims Little League’s Holder Park.

Below is a recap of the action:

On the 8-10 Softball Field

■ Game #1, District 19’s Lake Mary Little League (visitors) battled the District 11 team from Callahan Little League. Callahan opened the scoring in the bottom of the 1st inning when their first 2 batters, Nicolette Gibbons and Emery Walker, reached base and scored.

They would extend their lead in the 2nd with Annilyn Hentze and Kinsley Bass crossing the plate. Lake Mary would cut into Callahan’s lead in their half of the 3rd with Drea Meyers, Zoey Brandon, and Parker Gorondy scoring. Callahan’s Gibbons would score her second run of the game in the 3rd inning for a 5-3 lead.

Lake Mary’s Avery Little, Kaylee Whitlock, Aria Tormos, and Kate Hendricks would reach base twice each, but not cross the plate. Callahan’s Ryleigh Vanier and Taytum Bennett would each reach base twice without reaching home as Callahan hold on to win 5-3. Callahan’s win set up the remaining 2 games of the day.

■ Game #2, Lake Mary (visitors) would meet the District 22 All-stars from Merritt Island Little League. Merritt Island’s Zoe Beavers, Chloe Cardenas, Adelyn Dyer, Avaleigh Walker, Avah Whaley-Mullins, and Julianna Platenia would reach base, but only Beavers would cross the plate for a Merritt Island run.

On the other side of the diamond, Lake Mary’s runners were scoring, led by multiple runs from Zoe Brandon, Parker Gorondy, Avery Little, Karissa Edghill, Kaylee Whitlock, Rosie Collier, and Drea Meyers who all scored twice each in Lake Mary’s 17-1 victory.

Next on the docket was Game #3 between Merritt Island (visitor) and Callahan. Merritt Island’s Avah Whaley-Mullins would reach base twice while her teammates, Julianna Platenia and Avery Hazel-Makepeace would get on base and score.

But, Callahan couldn’t be held back as they received runs from Emery Walker, Chloe Turner, Nicolette Gibbons, Ryleigh Vanier, Jayden Perdomo, Baylee Nelson, Julianna Bowers, and Taytum Bennett in the 9-2 win, clenching the Section 3 Championship Title for the 8/9/10 Softball division. Callahan will represent Section 3 in the State of Florida Tournament being held in Crystal River, starting Friday, July 12th.

Meanwhile, over at the 9-11 Baseball Sectional Tournament

■ Game #1 pitted the visiting Lake Mary Little League All-Stars from District 19 against District 11’s All-stars from St. Augustine Little League. The St. Augustine runs never really got rolling, but Xander Jelks, Brantley Gutherie, and Levi Dasher reached base on errors and Clint Richardson received a base on balls. Meanwhile, Lake Mary would receive multiple runs from Winston Bernstein, Easton Climo, Major Hohman, Joseph Artiles, Liam Walk, Luke Morrow, Kentaro Nozawa, and Miles van Herbulis in their 17-0 win.

■ Game #2, St. Augustine would be home to the Merritt Island Little League All-stars from District 22. For St. Augustine, Clint Richardson, Adam Belloni, Xander Jelks, Brantley Gutherie, and Eli Potak would reach base safely while Richardson and Belloni would score. But, Merritt Island would get multiple runs from Stephan Thorpe, Trey Bliss, Raymond Dorsargno, and Tanner Shatto while Parker Gleason, Cash Acosta, Nate Gardner, and Dexter Pace would round out the scoring in Merritt Island’s 12-2 victory.

This would set up Game #3 as a winner-take-all all Championship game between Merritt Island (visitors) and Lake Mary. Lake Mary would get on the board in the first with Easton Climo crossing the plate.

Bradley Calo and Matthew Correnti would score in the 2nd, while Climo and Major Hohman added runs in the 3rd, increasing their lead to 5-0.

In the 5th, Winston Bernstein would score and Climo would add his 3rd run of the game. For Merritt Island, Trey Bliss, Liam Howley, Cash Acosta, Cypress Hedelston, and Colby Lacy would reach base, but could not be pushed across the plate as Lake Mary claimed the Section 3 title with an 8-0 win. Lake Mary will represent Section 3 in the State of Florida 9/10/11 Baseball tournament starting July 12th at Keystone Little League in Tampa.
