Could Inter Miami Start a New Dynasty in the MLS?

By  //  August 21, 2024

Inter Miami’s rise to prominence over the last few years has been nothing short of astounding. David Beckham founded the franchise in 2018, and they had their first MLS game in 2020. Since then, the Florida-based team has risen in the rankings dramatically.

Thanks to several high-profile signings, Inter Miami have managed to massively improve on their 14th-place finish in the Eastern Conference in 2023. After 25 games played in 2024, they were in 1st place with a five-point lead on second-placed Cincinnati. Understandably, there’s now talk of Beckham’s franchise starting a new dynasty in the MLS.

Messi Signing Was a Game Changer for Inter Miami

Inter Miami has made various statement signings over the last few years, with the likes of Luis Suarez and Sergio Busquets among some of the biggest names to ever grace the MLS. There’s no doubt that these two former Barcelona stars have had an incredible impact at Chase Stadium, but the addition of Lionel Messi has been the greatest story in the franchise’s short history.

Signing one of the greatest players of all time has not only helped boost the support at Inter Miami, but it has also assisted in turning the team’s fortunes around on the pitch. The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner is easily the best player in the MLS even at the age of 37, and he has shown his capabilities in various key matches this term.

One of the best showings for the Argentinian was in the May fixture against the New York Red Bulls. He registered six assists in the 6-2 win over the Big Apple-based franchise, which was a record number of goal involvements for the league. When Messi steps onto the pitch, the live betting markets are quickly adjusted in his favor. He is always listed with great odds to score or assist the next goal. Bettors have enjoyed staking on Beckham’s franchise this year, as they can usually be relied upon to get on the scoresheet.

Inter Miami Could Become the Man City of the MLS

The LA Galaxy is still the most successful club in the MLS, despite not having lifted a trophy since 2014. Still, the legendary franchise is always in the mix and has the chance to win the Western Conference in 2024 for the ninth time. As competition in the MLS has grown, there hasn’t been a dominant force that starts the season as red-hot favorite every time. That could soon change, though, with Inter Miami on the ascendancy.

Now that Messi has joined the up-and-coming franchise, it may encourage other huge stars to join the ranks. It will also be beneficial to the less experienced players who get to learn from a legend of the game.

If Inter Miami continues this trajectory, there’s a strong chance that they could grow into the main powerhouse in the MLS. They could mirror the model that Manchester City has developed in the Premier League and dominate the sport in the USA for many years to come.
