Florida Tech Men’s Soccer Voted Second in SSC Preseason Coaches’ Poll

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Florida Tech men’s soccer team was picked second when the Sunshine State Conference coaches released their annual preseason poll.

Tech concluded the previous season with a 13-3-5 overall record and a 7-1-2 SSC record. The Panthers advanced to the SSC Championship match against Barry with a win over Rollins.

The team returns 22 men from last season’s squad, which finished the season in the NCAA Final Four and was South Regional champions.

Among the returners are USC National Player of the Year Sjur Drechsler and USC All-American keeper Iker Bastida. The Panthers also brought in 10 new faces who will contribute quickly for the Crimson and Gray.

Barry, the 2023 SSC Tournament champion, is predicted to top the conference again, tallying 95 points and five first-place votes. Florida Tech also collected five first-place votes for 92 points, taking the second spot.

Rollins earned the final first-place vote; however, was voted fourth with 73 points behind Lynn’s 80 points. Nova Southeastern rounded out the top-five, recording 61 points.

Tampa (57) sits in sixth followed by Palm Beach Atlantic (45) and Florida Southern (40) in seventh and eighth, respectively.

Saint Leo (29), Eckerd (17), and Embry-Riddle (16) hold the final three positions.

The Panthers open their season on September 6, playing Lander University in Winter Park, Florida.
