NHC: Milton Rapidly Intensifying, Expected to Become Major Category 4 or 5 Hurricane Monday

NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER – As of 11 p.m. Sunday, Milton has strengthened into a Category 1 Hurricane, with max sustained winds of 90 mph.
National Hurricane Center officials said its hurricane hunters discovered Milton is rapidly intensifying and is expected to become a major Category 4 or 5 hurricane on Monday in the central Gulf of Mexico.
It is then predicted to become a Category 3 hurricane before making landfall on the west coast of Florida on Wednesday evening.

On the Space Coast, rainfall amounts of 6 to 10 inches are forecast and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has declared a state of emergency for 51 counties ahead of Milton’s landfall on the Florida west coast Wednesday morning.
