BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – Excitement was in the air as Team 801 Horsepower students attended the groundbreaking ceremony for a new robotics building at Edgewood Jr./Sr. High School that will be coming to Merritt Island very soon.
Team 801 Horsepower is a group of students from Merritt Island High School, Edgewood Jr./Sr. High School, Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High School and home school students that rally around engineering projects that compete across the country.
For almost 10 years, the team has been sharing space with the Brevard County Fire Rescue Station 43. On Thursday, the ceremony revealed a new chapter coming to Team 801 Horsepower as they get ready to move into their new building that will hopefully be completed by next year.
“We are pleased to invite you to a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Robotics Building at Edgewood Jr./Sr. High School,” said Caitlin Butler, Senior Communications Coordinator at BPS.

“This exciting event marka a significant milestone in the advancement of STEM programs within BPS and our support of the innovative learning for our students.”
Started in 2001, it was the first robotics team ever in Merritt Island.
The team gives students a hands-on engineering experience with professionals serving as a guide in a real work setting.
Many of the students in recent years have gone on to be employees at Lockheed Martin, SpaceX and NASA, to name a few.
