Titans enter the tournament as 14-2-2

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College men’s soccer team has finished its preparations and is ready to open the NJCAA Division I National Tournament on Monday afternoon in Wichita, Kansas.
The Titans, who come into the tournament 14-2-2 and the No. 6 seed, will play Murray State College at 5 p.m. EDT at Stryker Sports Complex.
No. 10 seed Murray State played No. 3 seed Salt Lake Community College to a scoreless tie through regulation and both overtimes, sending the game to penalty kicks. Salt Lake went a perfect 5-for-5 in the penalty kick round to take the win on Sunday afternoon.
“Murray State and Salt Lake was a very good game between two talented teams, just like everyone here at the national tournament,” Eastern Florida State College men’s soccer coach Adam Butler said. “It is exciting, it should be a good matchup for us, but they are very good on the ball.”
The Titans come into Group C play on a five-game winning streak and have been in Kansas all weekend getting ready for today’s game.
It is the second straight season that head coach Adam Butler has the Titans in the national tournament and he brought home the Southeast District Coach of the Year plaque on Saturday night during the national tournament banquet.
“We have some national tournament experience now, which means we know where the restaurants are, what the games look like and how cold it is going to be,” Butler said. “But we also know what to expect and we have talked about being able to deal with big pressure moments, we did not quite get that done last year and we are hoping to right that wrong.”
The Titans went 0-2 last year at the national tournament and get a rematch with Murray State Monday, one of the team’s that beat them last year.
“We have to show some heart – we have to play with heart and get after it, when we play with passion, that is when we are at our best,” Butler said.
Fans can watch the game live on the NJCAA Network for $12 per game or $20 for the tournament.
