Tropical Cyclone 18, now located in the western Caribbean, could impact the U.S. later this week.

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The National Hurricane Center has initiated advisories on Potential Tropical Cyclone 18, currently located over the south-central Caribbean Sea.

It is forecast to strengthen into a Category 1 hurricane while moving NW towards western Cuba and then weaken as it enters the Gulf of Mexico.

Locally, there is increasing confidence for heavy rainfall Wednesday into Thursday.

It is too early to determine specific rainfall amounts or whether there will be additional impacts on east central Florida. Continue to monitor the forecast for updates over the next several days.

The National Weather Service in Melbourne forecasts for Monday calls for a 30 percent chance of showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 83. Windy, with an east wind of 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Monday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 75. Windy, with an east wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
Tuesday: A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly after 1 pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 84. Windy, with an east wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
Tuesday Night: A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 77. Windy, with an east wind around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
Wednesday: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 10 am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 83. Windy, with an east-southeast wind of 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. The chance of precipitation is 50%.
Wednesday Night: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 77. Windy, with an east-southeast wind of around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
